All our services are child centred and work in a way that adheres to the National Treatment Agencies Six Minimum Expectations, in that they are:

  1. Psycho-social in there approach, ensuring all clients have a care plan and a key worker
  2. Provide harm minimisation advice and support
  3. Work with parents and carers (or can refer to a service that can)
  4. Have links to the Youth Offending Team, where necessary, to ensure a young persons offending behaviour and their drug use is being addressed simultaneously
  5. That a young person with a dependency on opiates (heroin etc) can access substitute prescribing
  6. Young people, where appropriate, can access Tier 4 services.

Youth Support Services (YSS)
The YSS provides education, prevention and harm reduction, advice information and support to young people, their parents and carers. Worker will provide advice over the phone or by visiting people in their own homes or any other suitable venue.
This service offers:

  • A Central telephone advice, information and referral point
  • Outreach Worker’s
  • Arrest Referral Worker’s
  • Drug Prevention Worker’s

The YSS works across the Bradford Metropolitan District. The different elements of service on offer are as follows.

Outreach Worker’s
Provide an advice, information and support service to drug and alcohol users who are under the age of 18. In some circumstance they will work with older young adults. They specialise in:

  • Screening and assessing
  • Working with young people who are at the early stages of using drugs
  • Work in partnership with Bridge Young Persons Service and CAMHS in providing intensive support and treatment for those young people who are engaging in more problematic patterns of substance use

Arrest Referral Worker’s

  • Offer a screening and assessment services to young people who have been arrested committing any crime in the Bradford District
  • Offer short term support, advocacy and referral on to more appropriate services

Drug Prevention Worker’s
Provide group work and one to one interventions for those who are at increased risk of substance misusing behaviour. This is a free service available to all agencies in contact with young people in the Bradford District, including in particular:

  • Young Offenders
  • Young People who are looked after by Social Services
  • Young people who are no longer attending Mainstream education or who are risk of being excluded from school
  • Parents and carers
  • Professionals

Opening Hours
Staff are available between 9.00am and 8.00pm Monday to Friday. Contact outside these hours can be arranged as part of an agreed plan of work.

Bridge Project – Young People and Families Service
The Bridge Project provides a service for drug users under the age of 19 and their families in the Bradford District.

It provides substitute prescribing in partnership with the Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service. CAMHS provides two prescribing clinics a week based at Bridge.

The service is open to all drug users and is sensitive to the particular needs of every individual that approaches the service for treatment.

Monday to Thursday 10.00am to 5.00pm
Fridays 10.00am to 4.30pm

SuperKids
The SuperKids project is based in Bradford and addresses the needs of children whose parents have drug and/or alcohol problems. Its main aim is to keep children and young people, whose parents use drugs and/or alcohol in a problematic manner, both physically and emotionally safe.

The project offers:

  • Individual counselling
  • Group work
  • Recreational activities
  • Mentoring and befriending
  • Help with accessing other resources

SuperKids provides both therapeutic and recreational support for children as well as enabling their parents to receive services that they might not be able access because of childcare responsibilities.
